Compact pressure transmitters for explosive atmospheres

Compact pressure transmitters for explosive atmospheresIt is not always necessary to use a process pressure transmitter which is rangeable, repairable and full of digital gismos in a hazardous area, some times a straightforward 4-20mA signals with no digital functionality will do a more than adequate job for a much lower cost.

The XSA and XPSA intrinsically safe pressure transmitters are light and compact which makes installing them very straightforward because there is no mounting bracket required.  By design they are zero maintenance and the current output signal is fixed to the specified pressure range and does not contain any digital interface communications.

The XSA IS pressure transmitter covers the low pressure ranges from 250mb up to 60 bar and a silicon strain gauge sensing element is incorporated to achieve an accurate and repeatable pressure measurement. The silicon sensing element is housed inside a 316L stainless steel oil filled capsule which is sealed with a NBR O-ring into a 304 stainless steel pressure connection assembly.

The XPSA ATEX high pressure transmitter uses a proven bonded foil strain gauge on a 17-4ph stainless steel sensing diaphragm which provides a robust and durable sensing diaphragm for measuring high pressures from 50 up to 1000 bar.

The signal conditioning electronics generate an accurate 4-20mA current loop signal within 0.15% for the XSA up to 1000 psi gauge and 0.1% for the XPSA up to 15000 psi gauge at room temperature.

Both the XSA and XPSA pressure transmitters have been ATEX approved for intrinsic safety in non-mining (II) equipment group, very high protection (1) equipment category for hydrogen (IIC) gas group.  A temperature class of T5 (ambient temperature of -20 to +70°C) or T6 (ambient temperature of -20 to +60°C) can be selected depending on the application.

All the most commonly used pressure connections can be specified such as G1/4 male, G1/2 male or G1/4 female.  There is also a choice of electrical connections which includes large & mini sized DIN 43650A plug, M12 connector, 6 pin military bayonet style connector and 7 pin Binder connector.

For pressure sensing in hazardous environments the XSA and XPSA ATEX approved pressure transmitters provide a lower cost alternative to more elaborate pressure transmitters when all that is required is a fixed 4-20mA analogue signal for a given pressure range.
