Suction Pressure

Suction or negative gauge pressure is the difference in pressure between any vacuum pressure and atmospheric pressure.

For example if the pressure of a vacuum pump was at 900 mbar absolute and the atmospheric pressure was 1000 mbar absolute the suction pressure would be -100 millibar gauge or 100 mbar negative gauge.

The maximum suction pressure for air or gas is no greater than the ambient atmospheric pressure which constantly varies but is typically around 1 bar absolute.
