Traceable Calibration Explanation

Traceable Calibration means that the calibration was performed using equipment which has been routinely calibrated to a standard that can be traced back to a national or international standard.

The calibration certificate produced should show details of the calibration equipment used and its serial number.

If an audit is carried out on a traceable claibration certificate it should be possible to follow the hierarchy of calibration equipment within a organisation and ultimately to an external primary calibration standard which is controlled by a government appointed metrology organisation such as UKAS and NIST.
